Garīkas – shiitake mushrooms with a story
Mushrooms grown outdoors, a family tradition and real country hospitality in the heart of Kurzeme.
Old manor grounds in the Kuldīga district
Garīkas lies in Rudbārži parish, between Skrunda and Aizpute. A lime tree avenue planted in 1906 leads up to the manor house, which is surrounded by five ponds, walking trails and two viewing towers.
Shiitake has grown here on grey alder and oak logs since the early 1990s. The farm was built up by Andris and Valda Vjaksa, and since 2026 it has been run by their grandson Gustavs.

- Take the Rīga–Liepāja road (A9) through Skrunda. 300 m past the town boundary, turn right at the “Aizpute 27” sign (P117). Follow it for 8.2 km to the “Garīkas, šitaki sēnes” sign, then turn right and continue for about 1.4 km.

How many guests can the guest house take?
The rooms sleep up to 20 people, and for larger groups we can add extra mattresses and tent pitches.
Can I book the whole guest house?
Yes, the whole house can be booked for private celebrations, team days or a larger gathering of family and friends.
Are the sauna and hot tub available without staying overnight?
Yes, the sauna and hot tub can be booked on their own. The price is €80 for 2 hours, and each additional hour is +€15.
Can I order catering?
Yes – from hearty breakfasts to lunches, dinners and special shiitake dishes. Catering must be booked at least two days in advance.
Can you host company events?
Yes, we have a seminar room, catering, activities, a sauna and accommodation – all in one place.
Is camping allowed on the grounds?
Yes, tent pitches are available (€5 per person), which works particularly well for larger groups.
Is the place suitable for children?
Very much so – spacious, safe grounds, five ponds, a swimming spot, sports courts and walking trails with viewing towers.
